Next week, Guild Wars 2 will be available on Steam for immediate purchase: You can now get into the game with the Complete Collection bundle. Guild Wars 2 will be available on Steam soon. There has been no news about ArenaNet’s Steam launch for a while now. They originally planned to launch in late 2020, but were forced to postpone the release. But now we know when it will be released on Steam. It comes out next week on August 23, which coincides with the MMO’s tenth anniversary.

ArenaNet will release a Complete Collection bundle through Steam for $100/£87 in addition to the base game, which is free and without subscription. There are five Living World seasons that bridge each expansion story, along with new maps and features in this Guild Wars 2 bundle, unlike previous Guild Wars 2 bundles, such as the expansion collection available on the game’s website right now.

Players have complained about the extra price of the Living World story episodes on the subreddit and forums—they’re only available through in-game microtransactions right now. Due to their long meta event chains, the maps they add are often some of the most replayable in the game, including Dragonfall from Season 4 and Drizzlewood Coast from Icebrood Saga.

The roller beetle and Skyscale mounts are also required for these mounts, as are the ascended trinkets offering the best stats. There’s no doubt that regular players need these, so now there’s a more straightforward and easier method of acquiring them. Sure, it’s $100, but that’s ten years of content that’s still relevant thanks to the game’s horizontal progression.

A bunch of testing and changes have been performed by ArenaNet over the past few months to prepare for the Steam release. You’ll get your first mount when leveling up. Previously, you had to unlock your first mount while starting the Path of Fire or End of Dragons expansion stories. Now you’ll get one while leveling up. The level 10 raptor will be given to any player who owns one of the expansions. A raptor will still be available to players without the expansions, but for only 10 hours.

Despite being designed before mounts were introduced, these core maps are still regularly visited by veterans looking to kill world bosses and earn mystic coins at ley lines. The raptor isn’t necessary to traverse the game’s original zones, but it is handy if you want to stay on top of your opponents.

Also on August 23 a new balance patch is due that aims to improve damage for core class weapons. This changes are part of a larger series of balanced changes aimed at restoring the viability of power builds (as opposed to condition builds, which deal damage over time and are the current meta for instanced bosses). Newer players who haven’t yet unlocked their elite specialisations of their classes should also benefit from this change since it should make levelling smoother.

As far as the game is concerned, this Steam launch comes at a good time. Despite some complaints about balance among the community—especially around just how dominant the engineer’s Mechanist specialisation is—the game is still recovering from the highs of End of Dragons this year.

A new map set in the End of Dragons’ Canthan region of the Living World will follow after ArenaNet reformats Season 1 of the Living World story into an instance-based mission-based approach.

It’s a good time to jump in, not least due to the announcement of a fourth expansion-ensuring the old MMO will live on for quite some time.
