In 2021, Warner Bros. committed to streaming all of their major releases on HBO Max simultaneously, but the results were mixed, while other studios opted to combine theatrical and digital strategies, with mixed results. Although it is unlikely that this will change by 2023, it still does not mean that we will not be able to watch some incredible films by then. Magic Mike’s Last Dance (2023)

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (2023)

Creed III (2023)

As the son of Rocky’s nemesis-turned-friend Apollo Creed, Michael B. Jordan makes his feature film directorial debut in the third installment of the Creed franchise, which is based on a Rocky spin-off. It is not yet known how things will unfold in this chapter, but Jonathan Majors is expected to serve as Adonis’s opponent in the ring, while Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad are expected to reprise their roles as the girlfriend and mother of Adonis.
Scream 6 (2023)

In the aftermath of the release of 2022’s Scream, it has already been announced that a sequel will indeed take place involving the characters who survived the film, and the plot will be directly tied into that film’s characters. One day after that (or just the next day, to be exact), Hayden Panettiere was announced as returning to the series and reprising her role as Kirby Reed in Scream 4. As a result, this installment will be the first in which franchise star Neve Campbell does not appear, as she decided not to return after she was offered less than she believed she would be paid for the movie. While we do not know exactly what is going to happen in the story, we do know that without Sidney Prescott around, it will not feel quite the same as it was.

John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)

This blockbuster action franchise starring Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves has been delayed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and finally hits theaters in 2023. The film does not reveal too much information about the main character except that he is at war with — and possibly presumed to be dead by — the High Table, and Stahelski has claimed that there is a possibility that Chapter 4 of the film won’t end in a happy ending for him.

The big-screen adaptation of this Nintendo icon and his friends is being produced by Chris Meledandri, who is the executive producer of Illumination (Despicable Me), along with Shigeru Miyamoto, the author of the iconic Mario character. As the famous plumber who knocks over Goombas, Chris Pratt will voice the Toad, who will meet Keegan-Michael Key. The film features Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black and Seth Rogen will both voice Bowser and Donkey Kong, respectively, and Charlie Day will act as Luigi.
Evil Dead Rise (2022)

Although the plot of the movie is still a mystery at the moment, it is safe to say that Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and the rest of the family will return to the film to carry on the story.
The Little Mermaid (2023)

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won the Academy Award for its animation, was widely regarded as a big hit by critics and audiences. Across the Spider-Verse was also one of the most anticipated films of 2022, but was later rescheduled. There will be two actors joining Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales this time around, with Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy and Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara (aka Spider-Man 2099). It is also believed that Issa Rae’s Jessica Drew will be voiced, and Jake Johnson’s Peter Parker will also return in the series.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)

As the Transformers franchise moves into its fourth movie, it takes viewers to a time period reminiscent of the 1980s with Bumblebee, and this time, viewers can get a sense of the mid-90s when a pair of archaeologists find themselves in the middle of a three-way conflict between three factions. A loose interpretation of the Beast Wars storyline will be used to direct the film, which will be directed by Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II). Peter Cullen will return to play the voice of Optimus Prime and there are actors like Ron Perlman, Anthony Ramos, and Dominique Fishback as part of the cast, along with other members of the film.

I hope you have heard that multiverses are going to be all the rage by the end of 2022, and this movie is set to serve as DC’s contribution to that trend. We do not yet have any information about the plot of this film, just like a lot of the other movies on this list, but the casting of Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne could either be a super meta stunt or a big hint about what to expect. As rumor has it, this movie will be based on the “Flashpoint” storyline from the comic book, which means that crossovers may occur in the future regarding the characters from the comic book.
Indiana Jones 5 (2023)

As a matter of fact, this is the first Indiana Jones movie directed by someone other than Steven Spielberg. This long-awaited sequel to 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will be directed by James Mangold (Walk the Line), which will feature Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Antonio Banderas, and Harrison Ford in addition to many others.

It was originally planned that Mission: Impossible 8 would be released in this slot, however with COVID being what it is, we’ll be getting a M:I 7 movie in 2023, followed by a M:I 8 movie in 2024. It is important to note that Tom Cruise has been playing Ethan Hunt for more than 27 years when this movie hits theaters. Where do the years go? In this installment of the franchise, we will see familiar franchise characters like Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Czerny, Vanessa Kirby, and Esai Morales, as well as many other familiar franchise actors, who will also play villains.

It would be best to watch the IMAX-shot film on the biggest screen possible as it is similar to virtually every other Nolan film.

Despite the fact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t getting any smaller in size, Marvel has announced that they will release five films in 2023, including this sequel to Captain Marvel, directed by Nia DaCosta (2021’s Candyman) and featuring Brie Larson again playing Carol Danvers. Also in this film, Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan, the character who is the inspiration of Ms. Marvel, will be able to make her big screen debut following her eponymous Disney+ series debut in 2022.
Roosevelt (2023)

A Martin Scorsese documentary is set to retell the legacy of the 32nd president of the United States, which will star Leonardo DiCaprio, who will be playing the role of the man who led the country during World War II and the Great Depression. It has been a long time since this was announced, so take this release date with some caution. The movie was announced back in 2017 and since then, there have been a lot of rumours surrounding it.

Blue Beetle was originally destined for HBO Max, but Warner Bros. changed their minds about it and made it a theatrical release instead. Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) will direct the DC superhero movie and Xolo Mariduea will star in the Karate Kid-inspired series Cobra Kai on Netflix.

The Nun 2 (2023)

We have the opportunity to expand the Conjuring Universe with the release of a sequel to the horror film The Nun, which stars Taissa Farmiga as a young nun who encounters the demon Valak when she attends her convent. Farmiga’s sister Irene encounters Valak once again four years later, following a murder of a priest in the second film. In the meantime, we have yet to hear whether or not Taissa Farmiga, who played Valak in last year’s film, will return to reprise her role in the upcoming film, as Bonnie Aarons is the only star currently attached to the project.

Chandor (All Is Lost, Triple Frontier), Aaron Taylor-Johnson will also play the character in the film, who is the same actor who played Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

After capping off his trio of Halloween films, director David Gordon Green jumps right into a favorite horror franchise after wrapping up his three Halloween movies. It has been reported that he will return to the Michael Myers story, as well as The Exorcist, which he re-interpreted in 1973 to be the first film in the first of a trilogy. Ellen Burstyn is expected to return in the role.

This sequel may have been put in question as a result of the first installment’s release on HBO Max. There is no doubt about what is now officially official: Dune: Part Two has been released, with director Denis Villeneuve claiming that the movie will take the entirety of Frank Herbert’s 1965 opus and will be released exclusively in theaters.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)

In this Hunger Games prequel based on Suzanne Collins’ novel, Francis Lawrence returns to direct the sequel, which is inspired by the novel. In the original series, Coriolanus Snow (originally played by Donald Sutherland) focuses primarily on the involvement of the younger Coriolanus Snow in the Hunger Games, who served as a game-changing mentor years before the events in the series took place.

As well as Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Keegan Michael-Key, and Rowan Atkinson, the film is directed by Paul King, the filmmaker who enjoyed huge critical success with his two Paddington films.

There is still time to catch the latest new production of H.E.R.’s highly acclaimed musical, which nabbed a Tony Award for its revival on Broadway in 2016. Lock up your calendar for the silver screen adaptation, with R&B phenom H.E.R. making her screen debut in the early 1900s-set Southern epic.
Untitled Ghostbusters: Afterlife Sequel

Currently, we don’t have too many confirmed details about this sequel, except that the director Jason Reitman will return to the film, and it seems likely that Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace, and Finn Wolfhard are all likely to return, possibly along with co-star Paul Rudd, as well as some of the original Ghostbusters that are still alive. Moreover, we know that the film will take place in New York and in the firehouse of the original films, which was teased at the end of the first movie.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)

There is no denying that James Wan is coming back to direct another film about the world of Atlantis and Aquaman, starring the DC superhero Jason Momoa, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, in which he will play the superhero. However, no further information has yet been released on the film.
